Signs You Need Root Canal Treatment
When it comes to root canal treatment, your dentist will need to evaluate several different sources of information in order to determine if this is right for you. While there are a number of signs that you definitely need a root canal, there are a number of less evident ones that may only be noticeable by your dentist.
Some of the issues and some of the events that your dentist will evaluate include:
- Any symptoms that you have noticed. This will usually include swelling and discomfort.
- Signs that your dentist notices: There are some teeth that may not give signs of an issue, but your dentist may notice the signs that are not obvious to the untrained eye.
- Additional tests may be necessary for an accurate diagnose.
Patient Evident Root Canal Symptoms
Teeth that are going to need root canal therapy may not always be painful. However, if yours is, you will experience some of the following:
- Discomfort that ranges from minimal to extreme.
- Pain that changes when you change your position.
- May result in response to chewing, pressure or other stimulants. Other times it may be spontaneous.
- Sensitivity to extreme heat or cold.
- Keeps you from sleeping soundly.
- Inability to tell if your upper or lower teeth are hurting.
Since the death of your tooth’s nerve tissue will not only be painful, you may not know that there is an issue present. However, with regular visits to your dentist, you will be able to have any possible issue treated before it becomes worse. When you have a root canal early on in the process of the issue, then you will not have to experience as much pain as what is caused by some issues. This is why keeping regular dentist visits is so important.
